In the second picture below you see the bong sao being used to crash a threat. It can be used in exactly the same way against a punching attack. After gray shirt crashes in with the bong sao, he uses a double lop sao to jerk his opponent into a knee strike.
Gray shirt uses a bong sao to crash into his opponent's guard.
